Breast Cancer Walk
![]() |
Breast Cancer awareness is imperative as it is the most prevalent caner among women. It can be a killer without early detection. The only way to convince women to take the steps to stop this killer is by keeping breast cancer in the headlines. All over the country women are uniting to spread the word.
One organized event to raise awareness is the Breast Cancer Walk. Many groups of people participate in the walks. First and foremost are the breast cancer survivors. They are the vanguard of the walk. They are up front wearing banners saying “Breast Cancer Survivor.” They are living proof that early detection and treatment can save women. They give other women hope that they can survive breast cancer also.
The next group includes the women who are fighting the disease at present. Some have to participate from wheelchairs and some can only walk part of the way. Their participation is crucial s people see what they are facing if they don’t have regular check-ups, mammograms, and do self-examinations. Some of the ladies are bald, wearing hat, or scarves, but they are alive. That is the most important part. They want to live and to help others survive also.
Another group is comprised of the support groups of people who have helped the cancer survivors in their quest to get better. Some are family member; some are friends, and some are simply volunteers. Still others who just want to help. They may not even know any of he other walkers; they walk because they are want to help.
Most of the time, each walker gets sponsors to donate money for cancer research. Lots of money can be collected through these donations. Because these walks have little if any overhead, quite a large amount of money can be raised.
At these Breast Cancer Walks, there are usually many booths that give out information about breast cancer. There might also be doctors or counselors to answer any questions participants or bystanders might have. Think about how many lives they may impact.
Not only do the participants gain satisfaction from doing a good thing, but they can also be proud of the money they helped to generate. If you hear about a Breast Cancer Walk, feel free to join. You have no idea of whose life you may affect you might have on people in the group.
